Apparently, the US Government has seized more than 70 domains, because they have something to do with counterfeiting goods and online piracy. This came directly from Homeland Security Investigations (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Here’s an example of a seized domain. One of the worst things about this is that any domain can be snatched up without notice whatsoever. In fact, the go through ICANN, and not public domain reigstars like GoDaddy. This just goes to show that no one is safe. The Government has the power to do what they will – even online, where people are supposed to be ‘free’.
I’m still dumbfounded by what is going on here. Where are we headed from here? Will the US become another feared country in the online world? The actions by the US are different than the infamous Chineese Firewall because they shutdown domains, directly from the source. This means that no one will be able to access it, no matter what country you come from.

This has been going on for quite some time, it really isn’t anything new except for the fact that their seizing list is always ever so expanding.
This can’t be real. ICE is immigrations customs enforcement nothing to do with the web…
It’s true, they’re taking names that were registered from US accredited registrars but were pointing to servers outside of the united states territory. Sad to say, they have the authority to take over those domain names for the fact that they are infringing international copyright law.
It just goes to show the type of society we live in. Things just aren’t so simple anymore :/
