Using your Google Account with your Mobile Device
Google is a pretty big force on the web nowadays, but you can bring the magic of Google anywhere with your mobile device. All you need is texting capabilities and Mobile Internet (sometimes called Mobile Web)! Here are the Google Services that we’ll be showing you:

Google Search for mobile
To use this feature, you’ll need to have access to Mobile Internet. In your mobile browser, navigate to m.google.com to begin your Google Search. There is even an option to have this address sent to your mobile phone via SMS. It has all the features that you would find at Google on your regular computer.
Google Maps for Mobile
Now you can actually carry Google Maps in your pocket, and you don’t even need a fancy phone! Just go to m.google.com/maps in your mobile browser. I tried this with Mobile Web (Verizon) on my cell phone, and it worked great! You can see location details and a map as well.
Gmail for Mobile
Now you can get your Gmail wherever you are! I use this feature all the time; it can be accessed at gmail.com from your phone’s mobile browser.
Google Sync
With your smartphone (BlackBerry, iPhone, Nokia S60, Windows etc) you can use your device to sync your email, calendar and contacts all in one place!
Google Buzz for Mobile
With Google Buzz for Mobile, you can easily see the ‘buzz’ going on around you at buzz.google.com on your mobile browser.
YouTube
At m.google.com/youtube you can easily watch any video, even if you only have access to mobile web.
iGoogle
Now you can bring your Google dashboard anywhere with iGoogle at igoogle.com.
Now, lets say that you don’t have access to any kind of Mobile Web. There are ways to get your self Google-fied even still. With these following services, all you need is text messaging and phone service!
Google SMS
Now you can even send text messages to get search results! Just send a text to ‘GOOGLE‘ (466453) with your search query. You’ll get text only info, but this still proves to be a great resource. For instance, I just sent the name of a company, and got a response in seconds with it’s stock information. Works great with resaurants asw well!
An example from Google:
- Weather information. Text ‘weather’ and a specific location (e.g. [ weather boston ]) and we’ll send you a weather forecast.
- Flight Status. Get flight information by texting your flight number (e.g. [ flight aa 2111 ])
- Stock Prices. Get stock quotes by texting stock before a ticker symbol (e.g. [ stock GOOG ])
GOOG-411
Now it’s easier than ever to find a business by calling 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411). Unlike other 411 services, GOOG-411 is free!
Google Calendar Events
In your settings in your Google Calendar, you can choose to have upcoming events texted to your device, and even request your next event! Check it out!
Google has something for everybody, and best of all it’s free!
